You’ll remember in my last blog, I talked about what Subluxation means, the damage it can cause, and the dangers if left untreated.

Here’s a quick reminder:

A subluxation is a small misalignment of the bones of the spine which causes pain, inflammation and nerve dysfunction. Seeing that the nerves control all of the body’s function this leads to symptoms.

But what causes subluxations in the first place?

Chiropractors answer this question by looking at the broad forms of stress that creates tension or dysfunction within the body.

1. Physical Stress
2. Chemical Stress
3. Emotional Stress

My experience is that understanding physical stress is pretty straightforward. Improper lifting, trauma such as a fall or car accident, trips and falls, etc. All these are pretty simple examples of physical stress.

But what of REPETITIVE stress? Repetitive stress is better understood as MICRO traumas, meaning that they are small traumas which accumulate over time. Computer, phone and tablet use are the most common examples. However excessive time driving, excessive sitting, and lack of exercise all add up to physical pressure and stress on the spine.

Regardless of what type of physical stress you experience, a Subluxation can occur when the muscles of the spine contract asymmetrically and misalign the bones causing nerve pressure.

Regular chiropractic care can prevent these micro physical stresses from escalating into serious physical trauma and painful subluxations.
